Cultural Resources Specialist

Description
Identify, document, and manage cultural resources, including archaeological sites, historic buildings, cultural landscapes, and traditional cultural places. Conduct research and field surveys; evaluate significance; assess project effects; and develop preservation and mitigation strategies in compliance with NHPA, NEPA, and related regulations while collaborating with agencies, tribes, and other stakeholders.
  • • Conduct archival research and records reviews to identify known cultural resources within Areas of Potential Effects.
  • • Lead field surveys and site documentation for archaeological sites, historic buildings, and cultural landscapes.
  • • Collect and manage spatial data using GPS and GIS; produce maps of survey areas and recorded resources.
  • • Evaluate eligibility of properties for the National Register of Historic Places and document integrity and significance.
  • • Prepare technical reports, inventories, and compliance documents, including Section 106 determinations and findings.
  • • Coordinate consultation with tribes, state and tribal historic preservation offices, agencies, and stakeholders.
  • • Assess project effects on cultural resources and develop avoidance, minimization, and mitigation strategies.
  • • Monitor construction and ground-disturbing activities and implement unanticipated discovery plans.
  • • Manage artifact collections, curation arrangements, and records in accordance with legal and professional standards.
  • • Provide cultural resource management advice to planners, engineers, and project managers during project design and permitting.
  • • Deliver presentations and outreach on cultural heritage, project results, and stewardship practices.
  • • Maintain cultural resource databases and GIS systems; ensure data quality, metadata, and version control.
