Description
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in an academic discipline; mentor students; develop curricula; conduct original research, publish findings, and seek funding; and contribute to departmental and institutional service. Roles may emphasize teaching, research, or a combination of both.
  • • Evaluate and grade students' coursework, assignments, and exams.
  • • Prepare course materials, including syllabi, assignments, and assessments.
  • • Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions and activities.
  • • Maintain attendance, grades, and other required academic records.
  • • Design, administer, and grade examinations, or oversee this work.
  • • Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, materials, and instructional methods.
  • • Prepare and deliver lectures and seminars on topics within the discipline.
  • • Maintain scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.
  • • Select and obtain textbooks, software, and other instructional resources.
  • • Stay current in the field through literature review, conferences, and professional activities.

  • • Conduct research and publish in peer-reviewed journals, books, or digital media.
  • • Collaborate with colleagues on teaching, research, and interdisciplinary initiatives.
  • • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
  • • Participate in student recruitment, orientation, and placement activities.
  • • Compile reading lists and bibliographies for courses and independent study.
  • • Engage in campus, community, and professional outreach events.
  • • Advise and mentor student organizations and honor societies.
  • • Perform administrative duties, including program coordination or leadership roles.
  • • Supervise undergraduate and graduate teaching, internship, and research activities.
  • • Write grant proposals and manage sponsored research projects.
  • • Develop and maintain course sites or pages in learning management systems.
  • • Organize and direct fieldwork, practica, or international study programs where appropriate.
  • • Write letters of recommendation for students and advisees.
