Description
Teach foreign language and culture courses to postsecondary or adult learners, emphasizing communicative proficiency and literacy. Design curricula and assessments, advise students, and support program activities; may include American Sign Language. This role is teaching-focused with limited or no research duties.
- • Evaluate and grade students' classwork, assignments, and assessments.
- • Prepare syllabi, lesson plans, homework, and instructional handouts.
- • Lead and moderate classroom discussions and communicative activities.
- • Maintain attendance, grades, and other required student records.
- • Create, administer, and grade quizzes, exams, and proficiency tasks.
- • Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, and teaching methods.
- • Deliver lessons that build listening, speaking, reading, writing, and cultural competence.
- • Hold regular office hours to advise and assist students.
- • Select and procure textbooks, authentic materials, and multimedia resources.
- • Stay current with language pedagogy, culture, and proficiency standards.
- • Advise students on placement, study strategies, and study-abroad or certificate options.
- • Collaborate with colleagues on course alignment, assessment, and program improvement.
- • Serve on departmental or institutional committees.
- • Participate in student recruitment, registration, and placement activities.
- • Compile reading, viewing, and listening lists for outside practice.
- • Participate in campus, community, and cultural events.
- • Advise or sponsor language clubs and honor societies.
- • Perform administrative tasks such as coordinating multi-section courses or labs.
- • Supervise teaching assistants, tutors, and conversation leaders.
- • Develop LMS course sites and integrate instructional technology and language lab tools.
- • Coordinate or lead language immersion, exchange, or study-abroad experiences.
- • Write letters of recommendation for students.
- • Engage in professional development and contribute to the scholarship of teaching and learning.
- • Apply for instructional or curriculum development grants when appropriate.
