Oversee day-to-day police operations as a watch or unit commander, supervising sergeants and officers, directing patrol and investigative work, ensuring legal and policy compliance, and managing resources and interagency coordination.
  • • Explain operational priorities and procedures to sergeants and officers.
  • • Communicate policy updates, legal changes, and new policing techniques to staff.
  • • Oversee and coordinate criminal investigations, ensuring lawful, thorough procedures.
  • • Address personnel issues and oversee inquiries into misconduct.
  • • Plan and direct training and roll-call briefings for assigned units.
  • • Review, approve, and maintain reports, logs, and case records.
  • • Evaluate subordinate performance and recommend promotions, transfers, or corrective action.
  • • Ensure proper collection, custody, and documentation of evidence and prisoner property.
  • • Develop, implement, and revise unit policies and standard operating procedures.
  • • Command field operations at major incidents, raids, and critical events.
  • • Prepare shift schedules and assign posts, beats, and special details.
  • • Enforce discipline and administer corrective measures for policy violations.
  • • Coordinate with courts and partner agencies; provide testimony as required.
  • • Review and issue written orders and operational directives for legal compliance.
  • • Inspect stations, detention areas, vehicles, and equipment for readiness and standards.
  • • Coordinate with the public information officer and respond to media or public inquiries.
  • • Manage requisitioning, deployment, and inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • • Engage with community groups to build partnerships and address public safety concerns.
  • • Oversee prisoner processing, release, and transfer in accordance with policy.
