Description
Locate, identify, render safe, and dispose of unexploded ordnance and improvised explosive devices; plan and execute controlled demolitions; and manage explosive safety, storage, transport, and accountability using specialized tools and procedures.
- • Conduct hazard assessments and site surveys to identify ordnance threats and safety considerations.
- • Determine render-safe, disruption, or disposal methods and required explosives and tools.
- • Establish exclusion zones, barriers, and notifications; control entry and evacuations.
- • Place and remotely initiate explosive charges to neutralize or dispose of UXO/IEDs.
- • Build and route firing circuits; connect initiators, detonators, and blasting machines.
- • Cut and rig detonating cord and time fuzes for controlled sequences when required.
- • Employ bomb suits, robots, disruptors, and x-ray systems to diagnose and mitigate hazards.
- • Prepare and place counter-charges, linear or water disruptors for precision effects.
- • Verify detonation and target neutralization; conduct post-shot checks.
- • Maintain explosive magazines and transport explosives in compliance with federal and DoD regulations.
- • Keep explosives inventories, issue logs, and accountability records.
- • Inspect, test, and maintain EOD tools, disruptors, robots, firing devices, and PPE.
- • Configure and operate remote firing systems and communications for command and control.
- • Collect, preserve, and document evidence; support post-blast investigations.
- • Draft render-safe procedures and demolition plans; produce risk assessments and permits.
- • Train personnel on explosive safety, recognition, and emergency procedures.
- • Coordinate with law enforcement, fire, military, and range control during operations.
- • Conduct range clearance, munitions response, and environmental remediation of ordnance.
- • Perform x-ray and radiography of suspect packages and munitions.
- • Use chemical, biological, radiological, and explosive detection as required; implement protective measures.
- • Secure and transport recovered ordnance to disposal or evidence facilities as authorized.
- • Prepare incident, safety, and after-action reports and update technical intelligence files.
- • Establish and monitor safe separation distances and net explosive weight limits.
- • Construct sandbagging, tamping, and shielding to contain effects.
- • Stand emergency response duty and support VIP protective sweeps and venue searches.
- • Inspect facilities and vehicles for compliance with explosive safety standards.
