Description
Protect pedestrians at designated crosswalks, primarily near schools, by monitoring traffic, stopping vehicles, and guiding safe street crossings while communicating rules and reporting violations.
  • • Monitor traffic and identify safe gaps for pedestrian crossings.
  • • Escort pedestrians, especially students, across streets, stopping traffic as needed.
  • • Guide vehicular and pedestrian traffic at designated crosswalks and school zones.
  • • Communicate crossing rules and safety information to students and adults.
  • • Report unsafe behavior of children to school officials or parents.
  • • Record license plates of drivers who ignore crosswalk laws and report to authorities.
  • • Use handheld stop signs, reflective apparel, and hand signals to stop vehicles and warn of hazards.
  • • Learn local traffic patterns, signs, and school schedules within the assigned post.
  • • Set up and remove portable crossing signs and cones at designated points.
  • • Coordinate post locations, procedures, and schedules with supervisors and school staff.
  • • Report hazardous conditions, near-misses, or malfunctioning signals to appropriate agencies.
  • • Maintain visibility and safety during inclement weather and peak school hours.
