Description
Apply and secure insulating tape and coverings on wound electrical coils and assemblies using taping machines and hand tools, ensuring correct insulation build, form, and finish per specifications.
- • Operate and tend coil taping machines to wrap insulating tapes on coils, stators, armatures, and transformers per specifications.
- • Review work orders, drawings, and insulation schedules to determine tape types, widths, wrap patterns, and cure requirements.
- • Prepare coils for taping by cleaning surfaces, aligning windings, and fitting sleeves or phase papers as required.
- • Select and load coils, bobbins, and insulation materials onto taping fixtures and mandrels.
- • Trim, splice, and secure tape ends and leads; bind and form coil heads/overhangs using hand tools.
- • Record production data, material lot numbers, and process parameters on travelers or in MES.
- • Stop machines to remove taped components; label, tag, and stage for subsequent operations.
- • Inspect taped components for coverage, tension, alignment, and insulation buildup; document results.
- • Apply varnish, resins, or paints to insulated coils and oven-cure as specified.
- • Maintain taping equipment by adjusting tensioners, replacing blades, and performing routine cleaning and PM.
- • Line slots with sheet insulation and install wedges or armor tape when required.
