Description
Install, align, and brace concrete formwork for slabs, walls, curbs, gutters, footings, and structural elements using wood and metal systems. Read plans and set elevations, build and secure forms, install ties and embedded items, apply release agents, and verify line, level, and safety. Monitor forms during placement and strip, clean, and stock components after curing.
  • • Read blueprints, specifications, and layout to determine formwork dimensions and elevations.
  • • Set the forms that hold concrete to the required line, pitch, and depth, and align them.
  • • Check forms to ensure they are properly constructed, plumb, square, and braced.
  • • Set curb, gutter, sidewalk, slab, and footing forms to grade and alignment.
  • • Place and drive stakes, set batter boards, and install strongbacks, whalers, and braces.
  • • Assemble and install wood and metal form panels, bulkheads, and corners.
  • • Install form ties, spreaders, wedges, clamps, and hardware per system requirements.
  • • Caulk and tape joints; apply form release agents to prevent leakage and sticking.
  • • Cut, drill, and fit form lumber and plywood using saws, drills, and hand tools.
  • • Set elevation benchmarks and grades using laser levels, transits, or string lines.
  • • Install blockouts, sleeves, keyways, chamfers, waterstops, and joint formers.
  • • Place expansion joint material and edge forms as specified.
  • • Position anchor bolts, embeds, dowels, and inserts to specified location and elevation.
  • • Verify rebar clearances at form faces and install spacers as required.
  • • Coordinate with crane or forklift operators to rig, move, and place large form panels.
  • • Inspect and tighten formwork before and during concrete placement; monitor for movement or leaks.
  • • Signal concrete pump or truck operators to facilitate safe placement into forms.
  • • Adjust forms during pour to maintain alignment and control deflection or blowout risks.
  • • Strip forms safely after curing; remove ties, wedges, and hardware without damaging concrete.
  • • Clean, oil, repair, and stockpile form components for reuse.
  • • Build custom templates and curved or specialty forms when required.
  • • Maintain tools, equipment, and work area; remove debris and nails.
  • • Document measurements and as-built locations of embeds and sleeves.
  • • Coordinate with rebar and finishing crews to sequence work and meet pour schedules.
  • • Follow site plans, safety rules, and local codes; complete pre-pour and post-pour inspections.
