Description
Cut, core, and remove concrete in slabs, walls, pavements, and curbs using hand and power saws. Lay out and saw control joints, openings, and demolition segments; protect utilities; manage dust and slurry; rig and remove sections; and maintain cutting equipment and safety compliance.
- • Control cut quality to maintain line, plumb, and depth.
- • Rig, lift, and remove cut sections safely.
- • Set up water supply for wet cutting; manage slurry and runoff.
- • Monitor vibration and structural stability during cuts.
- • Read plans and mark cut lines for joints, openings, and trenches.
- • Locate rebar, post-tension cables, and utilities with GPR or scanners.
- • Select saw type and blade/core bit for material, depth, and access.
- • Set up saw tracks, guides, and anchors; verify alignment and depth.
- • Perform flat sawing on slabs, pavements, and roadways.
- • Perform wall sawing for doors, windows, and mechanical penetrations.
- • Perform core drilling for plumbing, electrical, and anchors.
- • Use wire saws or chain saws to segment thick or confined sections.
- • Cut control and expansion joints to specified spacing and depth.
- • Make relief and demolition cuts to facilitate removal.
- • Implement dust suppression and silica controls when dry cutting.
- • Erect barriers, signage, and traffic control to secure the area.
- • Coordinate with GC and trades on sequencing and shutdowns.
- • Follow utility locate and lockout/tagout procedures before cutting.
- • Maintain and service saws, drills, hoses, guards, and power sources.
- • Replace and tension blades and bits; track wear and inventory.
- • Clean equipment and work area; dispose of slurry per regulations.
- • Patch edges, seal joints, or saw to final dimensions as required.
- • Document locations, depths, and as-built measurements.
- • Operate wet vacs, pumps, and slurry separators.
- • Work safely with PPE; follow OSHA and company safety policies.
- • Train and direct helpers or laborers as needed.
- • Read plans and work orders; verify dimensions, elevations, and tolerances for cuts.
- • Locate and mark utilities, rebar, and post-tension cables using GPR or scanning.
- • Lay out and snap cut lines to specified location, depth, and slope.
- • Saw-cut control and expansion joints at required timing, depth, and spacing.
- • Operate walk-behind slab saws to cut pavements, floors, and slabs-on-grade.
- • Set up and run wall or track saws for vertical and inclined structural cuts.
- • Install and operate wire saws for thick or complex demolition separations.
- • Core drill holes to specified diameter, depth, and angle; extract and label cores.
- • Cut and remove damaged concrete to limits for repair and replacement.
- • Drill and set dowels, anchors, and embeds after cutting as specified.
- • Bevel, grind, or chamfer sharp edges to finish and protect cut surfaces.
- • Control dust and silica exposure with wet cutting, vacuums, and shrouds.
- • Contain, collect, and dispose of slurry and debris per environmental rules.
- • Erect barricades, signage, and exclusion zones; coordinate traffic and pedestrian control.
- • Rig, lift, and handle cut sections safely using anchors, chains, and lifting gear.
- • Time joint cutting based on concrete curing and weather to minimize raveling.
- • Conduct pre-task hazard analyses and lockout/tagout of equipment and systems.
- • Set up saw tracks, anchors, and guides; verify alignment and stability.
- • Select blades, bits, and wires matched to aggregate, reinforcement, and thickness.
- • Troubleshoot and maintain saws, core drills, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- • Clean and inspect kerfs and holes; verify depth, plumb, and line before turnover.
- • Apply sealants, joint fillers, or curing compounds when specified.
- • Communicate with supervisors, general contractors, and engineers to confirm sequencing and approvals.
- • Document cut locations, measurements, and as-built changes.
