Description
Install, inspect, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair medical devices and systems in clinical settings. Perform preventive maintenance, acceptance testing, and safety/functional verification; maintain CMMS records and parts; train users; coordinate vendors; and ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory/accreditation standards to keep patient care technology safe, reliable, and available.
  • • Perform performance verification, functional checks, and electrical safety tests on medical devices.
  • • Install, configure, and validate new clinical equipment and instrumentation.
  • • Troubleshoot and repair equipment using diagnostic tools, schematics, and service software.
  • • Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance to optimize uptime and extend equipment life.
  • • Respond to on-call service requests and restore equipment to service quickly.
  • • Perform acceptance testing and inventory tagging for incoming equipment.
  • • Maintain accurate asset, work order, and service history data in the CMMS.
  • • Create and update PM procedures, work instructions, and service documentation.
  • • Train clinicians and staff on proper operation, basic care, and safety of devices.
  • • Coordinate vendor service, parts orders, RMAs, and warranty repairs.
  • • Support regulatory and accreditation audits by maintaining records and demonstrating compliance.
  • • Ensure devices meet standards and policies (e.g., NFPA 99, AAMI, IEC, TJC).
  • • Evaluate equipment risks for new procedures and verify readiness with clinical staff.
  • • Configure firmware, software options, and network settings for device integration.
  • • Collaborate with IT, facilities, and nursing to plan installations and room readiness.
  • • Decontaminate equipment and follow infection control protocols before service.
  • • Document test results, repairs, parts usage, and incident reports clearly and promptly.
  • • Track service metrics and analyze failure trends to drive reliability improvements.
  • • Recommend equipment replacements, accessories, or configuration changes based on data.
  • • Provide feedback to OEMs on recurring issues and participate in field corrections or recalls.
  • • Manage spare parts and loaner inventory; ensure test equipment is calibrated.
  • • Prioritize work orders and coordinate schedules with departments; mentor junior techs when needed.
  • • Support equipment lifecycle management, including relocation, decommissioning, and disposal.
  • • Perform device cybersecurity tasks in coordination with IT, such as patching and hardening.
  • • Assist with selection and planning for new equipment acquisitions through serviceability input.
  • • Verify user-reported problems, reproduce faults, and perform post-repair functional checks.
  • • Maintain user manuals and technical literature for reference and staff access.
  • • Stay current on OEM bulletins, safety alerts, and industry best practices.
  • • Coordinate and execute recalls, hazard alerts, and field service bulletins with stakeholders.
  • • Ensure availability of loaners and backup equipment to minimize clinical downtime.
