Description
Maintain safety, security, and order in courthouses and courtrooms; support judges and court operations; and protect jurors, staff, and the public.
  • • Maintain order in the courtroom during hearings and trials and protect jurors from outside contact.
  • • Guard and monitor lodging of sequestered juries.
  • • Escort juries to approved locations outside the courtroom to prevent public contact.
  • • Enforce courtroom rules and decorum; warn or remove disruptive persons.
  • • Summon or coordinate police, fire, or medical assistance as needed.
  • • Announce the judge's entrance and call the court to order.
  • • Restrict entry to the courtroom during sensitive proceedings, including when the judge charges the jury.
  • • Screen entrants at courthouse checkpoints using magnetometers, x-ray machines, and other devices; seize unauthorized weapons and contraband.
  • • Patrol interior and exterior areas and provide security escorts for judges and court staff.
  • • Inspect courtrooms for security, cleanliness, and readiness; stock supplies for judges, jurors, and attorneys.
  • • Receive, log, secure, and present evidence and exhibits during proceedings.
  • • Escort in-custody defendants to and from court and maintain custody during appearances.
  • • Maintain and post the court calendar and docket updates.
  • • Execute or act on court-ordered arrests within the courthouse and detain offenders safely.
  • • Provide public assistance and directions to court services and offices.
