Description
Maintain order and security in a court of law, supporting the judge and protecting jurors, staff, and the public.
- • Maintain order in the courtroom and guard the jury from outside contact.
- • Guard the lodging of a sequestered jury.
- • Escort jurors to meals and other areas outside the courtroom to prevent public contact.
- • Enforce courtroom rules and warn individuals not to disrupt proceedings.
- • Report the need for police or medical assistance to the sheriff's office.
- • Announce the judge's entrance.
- • Restrict entry while the judge charges the jury.
- • Screen courthouse entrants with magnetometers, X-ray machines, and other devices; secure unauthorized weapons and contraband.
- • Patrol courthouse interior and exterior and escort judges and staff.
- • Inspect the courtroom for security and cleanliness and ensure supplies are available for the judge, jurors, and attorneys.
- • Handle and secure evidence and exhibits during proceedings.
- • Escort in-custody defendants to and from court and maintain custody during proceedings.
- • Arrest individuals in court pursuant to issued warrants.
- • Assist the public with directions and court information.
- • Assist in maintaining the court docket.
