Facilitate negotiation and conflict resolution through structured, impartial dialogue. Help parties resolve disputes outside the court system by mutual consent.
  • • Confer with disputants to clarify issues, identify interests, and understand needs.
  • • Use mediation techniques to facilitate communication, build understanding, and guide parties toward voluntary agreement.
  • • Set appointments and coordinate logistics for mediation sessions.
  • • Conduct intake and screening to assess case suitability, safety, and readiness for mediation.
  • • Hold initial meetings to explain the mediation process, confidentiality, fees, and ground rules.
  • • Conduct joint sessions and private caucuses to gather information and explore options.
  • • Help parties generate, evaluate, and reality-test settlement options.
  • • Draft memoranda of understanding or settlement agreements for parties to review and sign.
  • • Review relevant documents, such as contracts or records, to understand disputed issues.
  • • Interview disputants and, with consent, pertinent third parties to obtain information.
  • • Research relevant laws or policies to inform discussion and ensure agreements are workable, without giving legal advice.
  • • Maintain neutrality, manage power imbalances, and ensure a fair, respectful process.
  • • Document session notes, agreements reached, and case status.
  • • Provide referrals to legal, counseling, or community resources when appropriate.
  • • Organize or deliver outreach and educational presentations about mediation to community organizations, schools, or agencies.
  • • Coordinate with courts or referral programs to schedule cases and report outcomes as required.
  • • Monitor compliance with mediated agreements when program policy requires follow-up.
  • • Specialize in mediating environmental, workplace, community, or family disputes as needed.
