Description
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in an academic discipline; conduct scholarly research; mentor students; and provide service to the institution and profession. Includes professors across the arts, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, and professional fields. Roles may be primarily teaching or a combination of teaching, research, and service.
  • • Prepare course materials, including syllabi, assignments, and readings.
  • • Deliver lectures, seminars, and workshops to undergraduate and graduate students.
  • • Evaluate and grade students’ work, projects, and examinations.
  • • Initiate, facilitate, and moderate class discussions.
  • • Supervise laboratories, studios, practicums, or fieldwork as applicable.
  • • Design, administer, and grade examinations and assessments.
  • • Advise students on academic planning, research paths, and careers.
  • • Supervise undergraduate and graduate research and internships.
  • • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and other required records.
  • • Develop and revise curricula, courses, and instructional methods.
  • • Conduct original research or creative work in the field.
  • • Publish findings in peer‑reviewed journals, books, or digital media.
  • • Seek external and internal funding through grant proposals.
  • • Collaborate with colleagues on teaching, research, and service initiatives.
  • • Hold regular office hours to advise and assist students.
  • • Select textbooks, software, equipment, and other instructional resources.
  • • Participate in student recruitment, orientation, and placement activities.
  • • Advise and mentor student organizations and extracurricular activities.
  • • Engage in campus, alumni, and community outreach.
  • • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
  • • Provide professional consulting or expert services to external organizations.
  • • Perform academic administration, such as program leadership or department chair duties.
  • • Compile and curate bibliographies and other learning resources.
