Description
Perform CAD drafting and modeling duties, usually under the direction of an engineer, architect, or designer, to produce drawings and data used for construction, fabrication, mapping, or other purposes. Create plans and details from sketches, field data, and specifications; calculate dimensions and quantities; apply standards; and verify the accuracy and completeness of drawings and deliverables.
- • Set up drawings, coordinate systems, units, and templates in CAD.
- • Create and revise 2D/3D drawings and models from sketches, markups, or specs.
- • Import survey points, breaklines, and alignments to build surfaces/base maps.
- • Check layers, linetypes, and symbology; identify and fix drafting errors.
- • Develop and maintain CAD standards, templates, blocks, and libraries.
- • Manage external references (Xrefs), sheet sets, and model-to-sheet workflows.
- • Produce plan, profile, and detail sheets; set scales, viewports, and annotations.
- • Apply plot styles and lineweights; prepare plots and PDFs.
- • Assemble drawing packages and as-builts; maintain revision control.
- • Perform area, length, volume, and quantity takeoffs in CAD.
- • Generate stakeout drawings, point files, and coordinate lists for field crews.
- • Georeference and mosaic aerial imagery; clip and manage rasters in drawings.
- • Digitize features from imagery or scans to create accurate base drawings.
- • Validate dimensions and tolerances against codes and specifications.
- • Cross-check contours, utilities, and boundaries with prior plans and imagery.
- • Draft boundary, site, floor, or fabrication plans using survey/design data.
- • Create and edit parametric families/blocks, details, and symbols.
- • Insert and manage notes, callouts, legends, and schedules on sheets.
- • Convert redlines to final drawings; update models per RFIs and change orders.
- • Export and translate files between formats (DWG, DGN, DXF, IFC, PDF).
- • Operate CAD and document management systems; store data and produce reports.
- • Perform coordinate transformations and unit conversions; align models between disciplines.
- • Prepare 3D views or renderings to support design reviews.
- • Assist with estimating drafting hours, sheet counts, and deliverable schedules.
- • Record data sources and drafting methods; maintain drawing metadata.
- • Respond to staff and vendor inquiries about drawings, revisions, or file formats.
- • Locate control points and property lines in existing records to inform drafting.
- • Run basic clash checks and flag conflicts for resolution.
- • Mentor junior drafters and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
- • Follow company/client CAD/BIM standards and QA/QC checklists.
