Description
Provide primary medical care to infants, children, and adolescents by diagnosing, treating, and helping prevent illness and injury; coordinate preventive services and refer to specialists when needed.
- • Perform well-child visits and routine screenings; assess growth and development.
- • Obtain histories and conduct physical exams; order and interpret diagnostic tests.
- • Diagnose and manage acute illnesses and chronic pediatric conditions.
- • Provide immunizations and preventive care per evidence-based guidelines.
- • Prescribe and manage medications, therapies, and other treatments.
- • Educate patients, parents, and guardians on nutrition, activity, safety, hygiene, and disease prevention.
- • Explain diagnoses, test results, and care plans to families.
- • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
- • Develop and oversee care plans supporting mental, behavioral, and developmental health.
- • Coordinate care and refer patients to pediatric subspecialists or other providers when indicated.
- • Maintain accurate, timely medical records and documentation.
- • Direct and collaborate with nurses, assistants, trainees, therapists, and other staff.
- • Provide consultation to other clinicians on pediatric cases.
- • Implement or support clinic and community health programs and quality initiatives.
- • Complete required reports, forms, and registries (e.g., immunizations, school/camp, communicable disease).
- • Teach medical students and residents about pediatric care.
- • Participate in continuing education and, when applicable, clinical research.
