Parking Enforcement Workers
Description
Patrols assigned areas to enforce parking laws; issues warnings and citations, coordinates towing and traffic control, and assists the public to support safe, orderly curbside access.
  • • Patrol assigned zones by vehicle or on foot to enforce parking ordinances.
  • • Maintain radio or mobile communications with dispatch.
  • • Issue warnings and citations for parking violations.
  • • Chalk and time tires; recheck for time-limit compliance.
  • • Respond to dispatched complaints and violation calls.
  • • Train and mentor new or temporary PEOs.
  • • Verify violations and vehicle status; request booting or towing as needed.
  • • Perform basic vehicle checks and report maintenance issues.
  • • Observe and report hazards, missing signs, or faded markings.
  • • Investigate and route contested citation inquiries.
  • • Maintain assigned equipment and supplies.
  • • Provide the public with information on regulations, facilities, and directions.
  • • Appear at hearings to testify on contested citations.
  • • Arrange towing for illegally parked or abandoned vehicles and guide tow operators.
  • • Set up temporary traffic control and meter bags as directed.
  • • Assist motorists with minor issues when safe (e.g., flat tires, lockouts, jump-starts).
  • • Enter and retrieve registration and status data using handheld systems.
  • • Prepare and maintain logs and reports of enforcement activity and contested cases.
  • • Identify lost, stolen, or counterfeit permits and take enforcement action.
  • • Assign and review the work of support staff when designated.
