Examines, diagnoses, and treats dental malocclusions and oral cavity anomalies. Designs and fabricates appliances to realign teeth and jaws to restore normal function and improve appearance.
  • • Fits dental appliances to alter tooth and jaw position and realign teeth.
  • • Studies diagnostic records—medical and dental histories, models, photos, and X-rays—to develop treatment plans.
  • • Diagnoses dental-facial abnormalities of the teeth and jaws.
  • • Examines patients to assess jaw development, tooth position, and related structures.
  • • Prepares diagnostic and treatment records.
  • • Adjusts appliances to achieve and maintain normal function.
  • • Provides patients with proposed treatment plans and cost estimates.
  • • Instructs dental staff and assistants in orthodontic procedures and techniques.
  • • Coordinates care with other dental and medical providers.
  • • Designs and fabricates appliances such as space maintainers, retainers, and arch wires.
  • • Advises patients on compliance with treatment plans.
