Description
Provide occupational therapy services under the supervision of an occupational therapist, including implementing interventions, assisting with evaluations, contributing to treatment planning per state law, leading activity programs, and documenting outcomes. Requires completion of an accredited OTA program and state licensure/certification.
- • Observe and document client performance, progress, attitudes, and behavior in the record.
- • Maintain a supportive, client-centered therapeutic environment.
- • Monitor participation and provide encouragement and cues during sessions.
- • Select and grade therapeutic activities to match goals and abilities per the OT plan.
- • Instruct clients and caregivers in home programs, ADLs, and the use and care of adaptive equipment.
- • Assist in evaluating functional abilities using measures delegated by the OT.
- • Provide ADL training, including dressing and grooming, with adaptive strategies.
- • Implement OT treatment plans to promote independence and occupational performance.
- • Report client status to the supervising OT and care team verbally and in writing.
- • Modify activities or environments within the plan of care to improve outcomes and inform the OT.
- • Deliver educational, vocational, or recreational interventions under OT supervision.
- • Fabricate, adjust, or repair simple assistive devices and recommend environmental adaptations.
- • Set up, clean, and maintain treatment areas, equipment, and materials.
- • Facilitate coping, stress management, and psychosocial skills per the OT plan.
- • Perform clerical tasks such as scheduling, data collection, and insurance documentation.
- • Safely transfer and transport clients to and from therapy areas using proper body mechanics.
- • Demonstrate therapeutic techniques, including exercises, therapeutic activities, crafts, or games.
- • Manage inventory and order therapy supplies as needed.
- • Assist with administering screenings or assessments and record results per protocol.
- • Collaborate with nurses, physicians, SLPs, PTs, and other team members on care coordination.
- • Participate in continuing education and maintain required credentials.
- • Attend care plan meetings to review progress and update goals with the OT.
