Description
Under the direction of a licensed occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant, the Occupational Therapy Aide (OT Aide) performs delegated, routine, and support tasks, including preparing treatment areas and patients, transporting patients, maintaining equipment and supplies, and providing clerical assistance to facilitate safe, efficient therapy services.
- • Prepare treatment areas, supplies, and equipment for therapy sessions.
- • Greet and prepare patients for treatment; assist with basic needs and safety.
- • Transport patients to and from the occupational therapy area and between departments as required.
- • Set up and clean up activities and adaptive equipment to support therapist-directed interventions.
- • Supervise patients during non-skilled activities, exercises, or crafts as directed.
- • Encourage patient participation and provide cues or reinforcement per the therapist’s plan.
- • Document attendance and non-clinical observations; report changes promptly to the OT/OTA.
- • Follow infection control procedures; clean, disinfect, and secure equipment and workspaces.
- • Maintain inventory; restock, order, and organize treatment and educational supplies.
- • Perform clerical duties, including answering phones, scheduling, filing, and processing forms.
- • Demonstrate basic, therapist-prescribed activities or device use under supervision.
- • Clean, check, and make minor approved adjustments to equipment; escalate repair needs.
- • Assist with preparation for evaluations by gathering materials and setting up rooms.
- • Accompany patients on therapeutic outings or community activities as assigned; provide transport if authorized.
- • Protect patient privacy and follow HIPAA, safety, and facility policies.
