Description
Provide anesthesia care across the perioperative continuum: perform pre-anesthesia assessments, develop and execute anesthesia plans, administer anesthetics, monitor physiologic status, and manage recovery. Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, dentists, and other clinicians. Licensed registered nurse with graduate training in anesthesia practice.
  • • Administer post-anesthesia medications and fluids to support cardiovascular stability.
  • • Evaluate post-surgical or post-anesthesia status and initiate corrective actions or consult when complications arise.
  • • Conduct pre-anesthesia assessments and patient interviews; document findings.
  • • Select and prescribe post-anesthesia medications and treatments.
  • • Select, order, and administer pre-anesthesia medications.
  • • Discharge patients from post-anesthesia care per protocols.
  • • Obtain and interpret diagnostic tests, such as radiographs (x-rays) and electrocardiograms (EKGs).
  • • Manage airways and pulmonary function, including intubation, mechanical ventilation, pharmacologic support, respiratory therapy, and extubation.
  • • Monitor physiologic responses (e.g., skin color, pupil size, pulse, heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, ventilation, urine output) using invasive and noninvasive methods.
  • • Perform and manage regional anesthesia, including local, spinal, epidural, caudal, peripheral nerve blocks, and intravenous blocks.
  • • Prepare solutions and administer local, intravenous, spinal, or other anesthetics per protocols.
  • • Respond to emergencies with airway management, resuscitative fluids or drugs, and basic or advanced cardiac life support.
  • • Select, order, and administer anesthetics, adjuvant and accessory drugs, fluids, and blood products.
  • • Review medical histories and risk factors to anticipate anesthesia responses.
  • • Develop individualized anesthesia care plans.
  • • Obtain informed consent for anesthesia procedures.
  • • Select, prepare, and operate anesthesia equipment, monitors, supplies, and drugs.
  • • Calibrate and function-test anesthesia equipment.
  • • Disassemble and clean anesthesia equipment after use.
  • • Insert arterial catheters or perform arterial punctures for arterial blood sampling.
  • • Insert peripheral or central intravenous catheters.
  • • Educate nurses, residents, interns, students, and other staff on anesthetic techniques, pain management, and emergency responses.
  • • Maintain professional competence through literature review, collaboration, and continuing education.
  • • Request anesthesia equipment repairs, adjustments, or safety checks.
