Description
Prepare, compound, and measure radioactive isotopes for diagnostic, therapeutic, and tracer applications. Calculate and document doses, manage hot lab operations, and ensure compliance with radiation safety and regulatory requirements. Calibrate and operate isotope production, dispensing, and detection equipment, and support imaging and therapy teams through timely dose preparation and quality control.
- • Calculate, assay, and document isotope activities and doses per prescriptions, protocols, and regulations.
- • Compound, label, and dispense radiopharmaceuticals; perform sterility and radiochemical purity testing.
- • Elute generators and prepare stock solutions of radioactive materials.
- • Calibrate and perform quality control on dose calibrators, gamma counters, survey meters, and hot lab equipment.
- • Maintain receipt, storage, inventory, and shipment records for radioactive materials.
- • Implement radiation safety practices, including contamination surveys, exposure monitoring, and waste segregation or decay-in-storage.
- • Prepare and package patient-specific or unit doses; verify identity, prescription, and timing before release or administration.
- • Assist with dose administration for imaging or therapy under physician authorization.
- • Acquire uptake counts or basic measurements using counters or cameras as required.
- • Record and trend QC, procedure, and disposal data in electronic systems.
- • Explain procedure preparation and radiation safety to patients and staff.
- • Gather clinical information to guide isotope or protocol selection.
- • Measure tracer distribution or biologic function using scanners or counters when indicated.
- • Train or oversee students or junior staff in hot lab techniques and safety.
- • Decontaminate work areas and dispose of radioactive materials per policy.
- • Support development and validation of new labeling methods and protocols.
- • Position phantoms and set acquisition parameters for QC or calibration studies.
