Description
Apply neuropsychological theories and methods to evaluate, diagnose, and treat disorders of higher cerebral functioning in clinical and research settings. Investigate brain-behavior relationships and how physiological states affect cognition and behavior. Develop and oversee evidence-based treatment and rehabilitation plans.
- • Conduct neuropsychological evaluations, including assessments of intelligence, academic skills, attention, concentration, sensorimotor function, language, learning, and memory.
- • Conduct research on neuropsychological disorders and outcomes.
- • Consult with physicians and other clinicians about patients' neurological and cognitive conditions.
- • Design and implement rehabilitation plans for cognitive dysfunction.
- • Diagnose and treat conditions involving central nervous system injury, including stroke, tumors, infections, inflammatory and degenerative diseases, head trauma, demyelinating diseases, and dementias.
- • Diagnose and treat conditions such as chemical and alcohol dependency, HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders, and environmental toxin exposure.
- • Evaluate and treat pediatric patients for learning disabilities and neurodevelopmental or organic cognitive disorders.
- • Educate and supervise practicum students, psychology interns, or hospital staff.
- • Establish neurobehavioral baselines to monitor disease progression or recovery.
- • Interview patients and caregivers to obtain comprehensive medical and psychosocial histories.
- • Participate in continuing education, in-service training, and workshops to remain current in methods and techniques.
- • Provide education and counseling to individuals and families.
- • Stay current by reviewing literature, consulting colleagues, and participating in professional organizations or conferences.
- • Prepare detailed clinical neuropsychological reports integrating test data, rating scales, self-reports, observations, and interviews.
