Description
Fabricate, assemble, adjust, and repair orthotic and prosthetic devices from prescriptions, casts, or digital models, using plastics, composites, metals, and leather; ensure proper alignment and function, assist with fittings, and maintain lab equipment and documentation.
- • Fabricate orthotic and prosthetic devices from work orders, casts, scans, or CAD files.
- • Thermoform plastics and laminate carbon fiber or fiberglass to create sockets, shells, and components.
- • Cut, bend, and shape materials and metal parts to prescribed contours.
- • Assemble components and hardware; glue, rivet, bolt, or weld as required.
- • Read prescriptions and technical specifications to select materials, components, and tools.
- • Take or verify measurements, tracings, and alignment marks for device construction.
- • Create, modify, and pour casts or positive models for fabrication patterns.
- • Finish devices by trimming, grinding, buffing, polishing, and applying cosmetic covers.
- • Pad and cover structures with foam, leather, or plastics for comfort and protection.
- • Bench test and align devices; check range of motion and biomechanical stability using jigs and alignment fixtures.
- • Fit devices on patients under practitioner direction and make adjustments.
- • Repair, maintain, and modify orthoses and prostheses according to specifications.
- • Mix and apply pigments or finishes to match skin tones or cosmetic requirements.
- • Maintain lab equipment, tools, and workspaces; perform routine service and safety checks.
- • Document work, manage inventory, and follow infection control and regulatory standards.
