Description
Lead a fire company as a first-line supervisor, directing emergency response, fire prevention, training, and station operations; conduct initial incident command and ensure crew safety, compliance, and readiness.
  • • Assign company personnel to strategic tasks and positions to support rescues and effective fire attack.
  • • Provide EMS within certification scope and direct or perform rescue operations at emergencies.
  • • Conduct initial size-up to determine incident priorities, resource needs, and tactics.
  • • Communicate incident updates with dispatch, command, and mutual-aid partners via radios and mobile data.
  • • Serve as the working leader of an engine, ladder, rescue, or wildland module.
  • • Plan and conduct company-level training in fire suppression, EMS, hazmat, and prevention.
  • • Ensure apparatus, tools, SCBA, and PPE are inspected, maintained, and ready for use.
  • • Evaluate and document company members’ performance and competencies.
  • • Assign instructors or subject-matter leads for drills and report training progress to command staff.
  • • Oversee routine station and apparatus maintenance and submit work orders or proposals for repairs and replacements.
  • • Prepare and manage company schedules, details, and work priorities.
  • • Monitor company-level expenditures and overtime for budget compliance.
  • • Contribute to pre-incident plans, occupancy surveys, and evacuation plans.
  • • Maintain incident reports, training logs, equipment records, and preplans.
  • • Operate and supervise safe driving of apparatus to and from incidents and training.
  • • Inspect station, quarters, uniforms, and equipment for safety and policy compliance and take corrective action.
  • • Review and improve company and station procedures to enhance efficiency and regulatory compliance.
  • • Direct and participate in daily station maintenance, cleanliness, and readiness activities.
  • • Recommend personnel actions on discipline, leave, and grievances through the chain of command.
  • • Complete administrative tasks, forms, NFIRS reports, and correspondence accurately and on time.
  • • Secure scenes, preserve evidence, and coordinate with fire investigators on suspicious incidents and false alarms.
  • • Identify equipment needs and recommend purchases or upgrades.
  • • Lead company-level fire code inspections and public education visits.
  • • Test and document fire protection and detection systems during inspections.
  • • Interpret and apply fire codes and permitting procedures for hazardous materials within company scope.
  • • Conduct post-incident analyses and after-action reports to improve operations.
  • • Continuously reassess fire conditions and adjust tactics and crew assignments as needed.
  • • Maintain current knowledge of fire laws, SOPs, ICS, and evolving tactics and technologies.
  • • Support wildland-urban interface and, where applicable, prescribed burn operations under direction of command.
  • • Participate in recruitment, selection, and onboarding of new firefighters.
