Fire Technician (Fire Tech)

Firefighters
Description
Install, inspect, test, and repair fire protection systems and firefighting equipment; support emergency operations by operating pumps, tools, and technical systems; assist with fire prevention, inspections, documentation, and training to ensure readiness and public safety.
  • • Inspect, test, and maintain fire alarms, sprinkler, and suppression systems per NFPA standards.
  • • Service, clean, and repair turnout gear, SCBA, and breathing air compressors.
  • • Conduct hose pressure testing, drying, repair, and inventory.
  • • Perform fire pump and apparatus pump testing and minor repairs.
  • • Complete daily and weekly apparatus and equipment readiness checks.
  • • Operate pumps, generators, and ventilation equipment during incidents under command direction.
  • • Configure and maintain radios, MDTs, TICs, and other electronic firefighting tools.
  • • Calibrate and maintain gas detectors and hazmat monitoring instruments.
  • • Flush and test hydrants; document flows and perform minor maintenance.
  • • Set up scene lighting, power, rehab supplies, and accountability boards at incidents.
  • • Assist with salvage and overhaul operations to protect property and identify hot spots.
  • • Reset and troubleshoot fire alarm panels and manage system impairments.
  • • Prepare maintenance, inspection, and test reports and update digital maintenance systems.
  • • Manage inventory and resupply of tools, hose, foam, and medical and hazmat consumables.
  • • Clean, decontaminate, and service tools and equipment after incidents and training.
  • • Drive and operate support vehicles and tow equipment trailers as authorized.
  • • Assist with pre-incident plans, building surveys, and Knox/access key control.
  • • Support fire prevention inspections by checking extinguishers, exits, and suppression equipment.
  • • Inspect, recharge, and hydrotest portable fire extinguishers or coordinate service.
  • • Provide basic first aid and firefighter rehab support within scope of certification.
  • • Train crews on proper care and use of new equipment and systems.
  • • Participate in fire drills, equipment demonstrations, and public education events.
  • • Coordinate vendor service, acceptance testing, and warranty repairs for systems and apparatus.
  • • Maintain station facilities, compressors, generators, and shop tools in safe condition.
  • • Keep current with codes, standards, and department SOPs through ongoing training.
  • • Assist investigators by securing system data, alarm histories, and equipment for review.
  • • Ensure compliance with safety, NFPA, and OSHA requirements during maintenance activities.
  • • Set up spill control, decontamination, and containment equipment during hazmat incidents.
  • • Document and track ISO-related data such as hydrant maps, flows, and apparatus tests.
  • • Participate in physical fitness and safety programs to meet job requirements.
