Description
Install, program, test, and repair electronic access control systems and door hardware, including readers, controllers, electric locks, and power/network components, for commercial and industrial sites.
- • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on access control panels, readers, locks, power supplies, and batteries.
- • Review work orders and consult with clients or site staff to identify access control issues and contributing user or mechanical errors.
- • Set up, commission, and test access control controllers, readers, keypads, and locking hardware.
- • Operate access control software and hardware to demonstrate proper use and analyze malfunctions.
- • Diagnose faults using multimeters, continuity testers, network tools, and software, applying knowledge of low-voltage and IP-based systems.
- • Repair or adjust doors, strikes, maglocks, request-to-exit devices, and replace defective components, wiring, or power modules.
- • Program, align, and calibrate installed devices to manufacturer specifications and site requirements.
- • Advise customers and management on system performance, user training, and recommended upgrades.
- • Inspect door hardware, cabling, terminations, and panel connections for proper installation, egress, and safety.
- • Interpret blueprints, riser diagrams, door schedules, and wiring schematics to plan installations and cable routes.
- • Maintain detailed logs of tests, programming changes, service calls, and repairs.
- • Coordinate with locksmiths, electricians, IT, general contractors, and security teams during installation and service.
- • Maintain inventory of readers, locks, controllers, batteries, cabling, and spare parts.
- • Collaborate with customers, project managers, and engineers to design door layouts, credential plans, and resolve system issues.
- • Return defective readers, controllers, or power supplies for warranty or depot repair.
- • Install and service systems in commercial, industrial, education, healthcare, and government facilities.
- • Evaluate standardized components versus custom solutions and help define equipment specifications for new functions or integrations.
- • Use access control software and CAD/as-built tools to program controllers, manage credentials, and update drawings.
- • Complete and sign installation, testing, commissioning, and compliance documentation.
- • Verify life-safety and code compliance, including free egress, fire alarm interfaces, ADA considerations, and UL 294 requirements.
