Description
Provide preventive oral healthcare, including periodontal assessment and prophylaxis; document findings and maintain records; educate patients on oral hygiene and disease prevention; and, as permitted, perform advanced procedures such as fluoride and sealant application, radiographs, and topical or local anesthesia.
- • Remove plaque, calculus, and stains supra- and subgingivally using hand and ultrasonic instruments.
- • Examine oral tissues and gums for lesions and signs of disease.
- • Chart findings, including caries and periodontal status, for diagnosis and treatment planning.
- • Palpate head and neck lymph nodes to screen for abnormalities.
- • Apply fluoride and other remineralizing agents to prevent dental caries.
- • Probe periodontal pockets and record recession, bleeding, and other periodontal indicators.
- • Remove excess cement and polish coronal surfaces as indicated.
- • Take impressions or digital scans for study models or appliances.
- • Administer local anesthesia and topical anesthetics as permitted.
- • Provide oral health education and community outreach programs.
- • Review and update medical and dental histories and vital signs.
- • Deliver preventive services and patient education to improve and maintain oral health.
- • Maintain operatory and equipment; clean, sharpen, and sterilize instruments.
- • Manage patient recall and re-care scheduling.
- • Complete continuing education to maintain licensure and skills.
- • Expose and process dental radiographs.
