Description
Provide preventive oral healthcare, including periodontal assessment and prophylaxis; document findings and maintain records; educate patients on oral hygiene and disease prevention; and, as permitted, perform advanced procedures such as fluoride and sealant application, radiographs, and topical or local anesthesia.
  • • Remove plaque, calculus, and stains supra- and subgingivally using hand and ultrasonic instruments.
  • • Examine oral tissues and gums for lesions and signs of disease.
  • • Chart findings, including caries and periodontal status, for diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • • Palpate head and neck lymph nodes to screen for abnormalities.
  • • Apply fluoride and other remineralizing agents to prevent dental caries.
  • • Probe periodontal pockets and record recession, bleeding, and other periodontal indicators.
  • • Remove excess cement and polish coronal surfaces as indicated.
  • • Take impressions or digital scans for study models or appliances.
  • • Administer local anesthesia and topical anesthetics as permitted.
  • • Provide oral health education and community outreach programs.
  • • Review and update medical and dental histories and vital signs.
  • • Deliver preventive services and patient education to improve and maintain oral health.
  • • Maintain operatory and equipment; clean, sharpen, and sterilize instruments.
  • • Manage patient recall and re-care scheduling.
  • • Complete continuing education to maintain licensure and skills.
  • • Expose and process dental radiographs.
