Description
Use hand tools and handheld or table-mounted cutters to measure, mark, and cut carpet rolls and tiles to specified sizes and patterns, prepare pieces for installation, and trim edges for proper fit and finish.
  • • Read work orders and floor plans to determine dimensions, cut locations, pattern match, and quantities.
  • • Unroll and lay out carpet on cutting tables or floors.
  • • Mark cutting lines with chalk, squares, rules, straightedges, and templates.
  • • Position materials to maximize yield and align pattern and pile direction.
  • • Cut and trim carpet and padding using knives, shears, slitting tools, and table-mounted cutters.
  • • Lower cutting wheels or knife blades to cut rolls to specified widths and lengths.
  • • Adjust guides and stops to control cut widths and depths.
  • • Trim edges, cutouts, and irregular shapes for vents, posts, stairs, and doorways.
  • • Seal, tape, or heat-bond cut edges to prevent fraying as required.
  • • Inspect carpet for defects, dye variations, stains, or damage; mark or discard flawed sections.
  • • Count, bundle, and label cut pieces.
  • • Mark job numbers, room names, sizes, pile direction, and dye lot information on pieces.
  • • Stack or roll cut items and load them on racks, carts, or trucks.
  • • Clean work surfaces and remove scrap; maintain a safe, organized cutting area.
  • • Replace or sharpen blades and maintain cutting tools.
  • • Transport materials to storage or staging areas using carts.
