Description
Install, inspect, test, calibrate, and maintain electric and gas meters and associated metering equipment; perform service connects/disconnects, troubleshoot inaccuracies, leaks, and communication issues, document work, and ensure safe, compliant operation.
- • Turn meters on or off to establish or close service.
- • Mount, install, and remove electric and gas meters at customer or plant locations.
- • Record meter readings and installation/service data in handheld or mobile systems.
- • Report hazardous conditions, tampering evidence, or damaged/missing meters.
- • Disconnect and recover defective or unauthorized meters using hand tools.
- • Inspect, test, and calibrate meters with provers and precision test equipment.
- • Connect regulators to test stands and adjust inlet/outlet pressures to specification.
- • Pressure-test gas meters and regulators for leaks and correct settings.
- • Attach air hoses to meter inlets, plug outlets, and observe gauges for pressure loss.
- • Dismantle meters and replace or adjust defective parts such as cases, gears, disks, and dials.
- • Make mechanical or electronic adjustments to meter components to meet specifications.
- • Replace defective parts such as bellows, range springs, switches, and wiring; reassemble per drawings.
- • Repair electric meters and components, including transformers and relays; replace dial glasses and wiring.
- • Install, inspect, and test electric meters, relays, and metering power sources using hand tools and testers.
- • Splice and connect cables from meters or current transformers to pull boxes or switchboards.
- • Mount and install metering accessories such as time clocks, transformers, and circuit breakers.
- • Trace and tag meters, service lines, and meter locations.
- • Shut off service and coordinate major repairs with field crews or contractors.
- • Calibrate instrumentation associated with metering for pressure, temperature, flow, and level.
- • Vary air pressure into regulators and verify valve and piston operation.
- • Lubricate moving parts of mechanical meters as required.
- • Clean internal compartments and meter housings; remove scale, paint, soil, or rust.
- • Measure tolerances of assembled and salvageable parts with gauges, micrometers, and calipers.
- • Advise customers on proper meter placement, clearances, and safe operation.
- • Turn valves to set measured air or gas flow through meters at specified rates during tests.
- • Program and verify AMI/AMR meters, communication modules, and rate settings.
- • Seal meters and apply identification tags after service work.
- • Document maintenance, test results, materials used, and repairs performed.
