Description
Receive and disburse payments in retail or service settings. Operate POS registers and scanners, process cash, card, and digital transactions, verify checks, issue receipts and change, and maintain accurate tills and a clean checkout area.
- • Receive payments via cash, check, credit/debit cards, vouchers, or digital wallets.
- • Issue receipts, refunds, credits, or change to customers.
- • Greet customers entering the store.
- • Assist other store areas, such as monitoring fitting rooms or carrying out items.
- • Cash customer checks when authorized.
- • Count the cash drawer at shift start and end; ensure adequate change.
- • Scan items or enter prices and tabulate bills using POS systems.
- • Process coupons, EBT, and promotional offers.
- • Answer customer questions and explain procedures or policies.
- • Weigh items sold by weight to determine prices.
- • Reconcile total payments with sales for the period.
- • Record and verify transaction totals.
- • Sell tickets, gift cards, or related items.
- • Maintain balance sheets for cash and transaction counts.
- • Bag, box, wrap, or gift-wrap merchandise; prepare packages for shipment.
- • Sort, count, and wrap currency and coins.
- • Process merchandise returns and exchanges.
- • Page staff to request information or assistance as needed.
- • Maintain basic non-monetary reports and records.
- • Monitor checkout station cash levels and request change or backup as needed.
- • Post charges to customer or house accounts.
- • Offer carry-out service at the completion of transactions.
- • Assist customers and help resolve basic issues or complaints.
- • Keep checkout areas clean; perform light cleaning as assigned.
- • Train new cashiers and provide on-the-job guidance.
- • Help customers find the location of products.
- • Answer incoming phone calls.
- • Stock shelves, reshelve returns, and mark prices on items and shelves.
