Description
Install carpet from rolls or tiles on floors; prepare subfloors, lay padding, seam and trim materials, and finish edges for a smooth, durable fit.
  • • Join and seam carpet edges by sewing or with heat-activated tape and adhesive.
  • • Cut and trim carpet to fit walls, openings, and projections; finish edges with a wall trimmer.
  • • Inspect and prepare subfloors; correct imperfections that could telegraph or cause uneven wear.
  • • Roll out, measure, mark, and cut carpet to size per floor sketches, allowing material for final fitting.
  • • Plan carpet layout, accounting for traffic patterns and optimal seam placement.
  • • Power-stretch and align carpet; secure over tack strips or with staples, tape, tacks, or adhesive.
  • • Measure spaces and review diagrams to calculate material needs.
  • • Cut and install carpet padding to specification.
  • • Install direct-glue carpet where specified, following manufacturer methods.
  • • Install or reuse tack strips around perimeters.
  • • Install transition strips and metal treads at thresholds and flooring changes.
  • • Measure, cut, and install tackless strips along walls.
  • • Create simple floor diagrams and record dimensions.
  • • Move furniture and remove existing carpet and padding.
  • • Cut and bind carpet as required.
  • • Clean the work area, vacuum installed carpet, and dispose of remnants.
