Description
Design, build, and maintain scalable software, pipelines, and data systems to process, analyze, and deliver genomic and other biological data. Implement algorithms and databases, automate workflows, and deploy solutions in cloud or HPC environments, ensuring performance, reproducibility, security, and compliance while collaborating with scientists and product teams.
  • • Architect and recommend systems, pipelines, and processes to improve bioinformatics throughput, reliability, and cost.
  • • Stay current on sequencing technologies, workflows, standards, and software via literature and conferences.
  • • Partner with product, operations, and business teams to translate requirements into engineered bioinformatics solutions.
  • • Collaborate with engineers to develop, containerize, and maintain production bioinformatics software and workflows.
  • • Evaluate and validate new tools; build automated tests, benchmarking, and CI/CD for pipelines.
  • • Build and package statistical and computational tools for variant calling, gene expression, and functional annotation.
  • • Automate QC metrics and summary reports for genomic and transcriptomic datasets.
  • • Train users and write documentation on selecting, deploying, and operating bioinformatics tools and workflows.
  • • Design and enhance APIs, CLIs, and user interfaces for bioinformatics applications and data portals.
  • • Lead and mentor technicians and IT staff in deploying and supporting omics pipelines across research and clinical environments.
  • • Develop new applications or extend existing ones to meet project-specific bioinformatics needs.
  • • Design data models, schemas, and databases for omics and clinical data with provenance and auditability.
  • • Build and maintain web-based analysis and visualization tools and services.
  • • Implement and optimize bioinformatics algorithms, including ML, dynamic programming, and graph methods, for scale.
  • • Prototype and productionize novel computational methods aligned with research and product goals.
  • • Develop ETL pipelines to ingest, normalize, and curate data for expression profiling, genome annotation, and structural bioinformatics.
  • • Communicate engineering outcomes through technical documentation, talks, reports, and contributions to publications.
  • • Integrate and manage public, commercial, and proprietary omics databases; ensure access control, versioning, and governance.
  • • Consult with researchers to scope problems, propose architectures, and select computational strategies and platforms.
  • • Build, orchestrate, and operate scalable cloud or HPC pipelines for large omics datasets (e.g., NGS, single-cell, proteomics).
