Description
Administer anesthesia and analgesia and manage perioperative pain before, during, and after surgical and diagnostic procedures.
- • Administer general, regional, and local anesthesia or sedation for surgical and diagnostic procedures.
- • Monitor patients pre-, intra-, and post-anesthesia and treat adverse reactions or complications.
- • Manage airway, ventilation, hemodynamics, and life support; prepare for emergencies.
- • Document anesthetic type, dosages, and patient status throughout care.
- • Perform pre-anesthesia evaluation, history, and risk assessment using exams and tests.
- • Position patients to optimize surgical access, safety, and comfort.
- • Determine readiness for PACU transfer or outpatient discharge.
- • Coordinate the anesthetic plan with surgeons and proceduralists.
- • Consult with other clinicians to select anesthetic techniques and analgesia.
- • Direct and collaborate with nurses, CRNAs, and technicians.
- • Order and interpret laboratory tests, imaging, and other diagnostics.
- • Diagnose and manage perioperative conditions using exams, tests, and reports.
- • Lead anesthesiology services and develop protocols and procedures.
- • Provide perioperative and pain management consultation; prescribe medications and treatments.
- • Educate trainees and staff on anesthesia methods, complications, and emergency responses.
- • Oversee scheduling and maintenance of anesthesia equipment and operating suite resources.
- • Counsel patients on perioperative care, pain control, and risk reduction.
- • Participate in clinical research and quality improvement; evaluate new drugs and techniques.
