Description
Diagnose, treat, and help prevent diseases and dysregulation of the immune system, including immunodeficiencies, autoimmune, and autoinflammatory disorders.
- • Present research findings at national meetings or in peer-reviewed journals.
- • Engage in self-directed learning and continuing education activities.
- • Document patients' medical histories and immune-related symptoms.
- • Conduct laboratory or clinical research on immunology topics.
- • Provide immunology consultation or education to physicians and other health care providers.
- • Prescribe immunomodulators, biologics, corticosteroids, antimicrobials, or other indicated therapies.
- • Perform physical examinations of patients.
- • Order and interpret tests such as immunoglobulin levels, lymphocyte subsets/flow cytometry, autoantibody panels, complement assays, vaccine response testing, or genetic panels.
- • Educate patients about diagnoses, prognoses, treatments, and infection prevention.
- • Interpret diagnostic data to make appropriate differential diagnoses.
- • Develop individualized treatment and monitoring plans based on risks, benefits, and patient preferences.
- • Coordinate care with rheumatology, infectious disease, hematology, genetics, or other teams.
- • Assess risks and benefits of immunosuppressive or immunostimulatory therapies.
- • Administer or oversee therapies such as intravenous or subcutaneous immunoglobulin and biologic infusions.
- • Manage vaccination strategies and antimicrobial prophylaxis for immunocompromised patients.
- • Monitor disease activity, immune function, and treatment adverse effects over time.
