Description
Operate tractor-mounted or stationary balers to produce hay, straw, or crop-residue bales; set and monitor machine controls for bale quality; perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting; and coordinate bale handling, wrapping, and transport.
- • Observe and listen for jams, misties, hot bearings, or other malfunctions; stop and troubleshoot.
- • Clear plugs and crop buildup; reset knotters or wrap mechanisms as needed.
- • Inspect, adjust, lubricate, and service balers, tractors, PTO shafts, and hydraulic systems; report major issues.
- • Load and thread twine, wire, or net wrap; refill preservative tanks; calibrate moisture and bale weight sensors.
- • Attach balers, bale accumulators, and wrappers to tractors using hitches, PTO, and hydraulic couplers.
- • Operate bale wrappers, applicators, or accumulators to finish, bundle, or wrap bales.
- • Drive tractors, trucks, or bale wagons to collect, stack, and transport bales from fields to storage.
- • Use loaders, spears, or grapples to load, unload, and stack bales safely.
- • Weigh, tag, and record bale counts, moisture, and field location in logs or digital systems.
- • Monitor windrow size and field conditions; coordinate with mowing and raking crews for efficient baling.
- • Guide bales onto conveyors or elevators and position pallets or netting to receive finished bales.
- • Keep pickups, knotters, chutes, and work areas clean; remove debris to reduce fire risk.
- • Follow safety procedures for PTOs, moving parts, road travel, and fire prevention; maintain guards and shields.
- • Operate tractor-mounted or stationary balers to bale hay, straw, or crop residue.
- • Manipulate controls to set bale density, twine/wire/net wrap, pickup height, and plunger speed.
- • Perform pre- and post-operation inspections and seasonal storage or teardown of baling equipment.
- • Inspect, set up, and attach balers, accumulators, or wrappers to tractors or power units.
- • Operate round or square balers to form bales from windrowed crops.
- • Monitor moisture, density, bale shape, and knotter or wrap performance during operation.
- • Adjust pickup height, bale size, density, and twine or net-wrap settings to match crop and field conditions.
- • Observe and listen to equipment to detect blockages, misfeeds, or worn parts.
- • Clear jams safely and replace shear bolts, knives, belts, or pickup teeth as needed.
- • Lubricate, clean, and service balers and tractors; report major malfunctions to supervisors.
- • Load and thread twine, net wrap, or wire, and verify proper knotter timing or tying function.
- • Operate bale ejectors, accumulators, conveyors, wrappers, or stackers to collect and stage bales.
- • Direct and monitor crews engaged in bale pickup, stacking, and barn storage.
- • Drive tractors, trucks, or telehandlers to move, load, and haul bales from fields to storage sites.
- • Secure bale loads with straps or chains and comply with road and farm safety rules.
- • Use moisture testers and scales to record bale moisture, weights, counts, and field identifiers.
- • Guide bales on conveyors and remove wet, broken, or contaminated bales.
- • Keep work areas clear of twine, net, and crop debris; implement fire-prevention practices in dry conditions.
- • Calibrate monitors and sensors for bale count, moisture, and density.
- • Follow lockout/tagout and PPE requirements during maintenance and repair tasks.
