Description
Assess, diagnose, and treat individuals and families across the lifespan with psychiatric and substance use disorders or risk for such conditions. Provide psychotherapy and psychopharmacologic management, including prescribing within state regulations, and coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams.
  • • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and mental status exams.
  • • Diagnose psychiatric and substance use disorders.
  • • Develop and implement evidence-based, person-centered treatment plans.
  • • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications per state law and collaborative agreements.
  • • Monitor medication adherence, effectiveness, and side effects; adjust regimens as needed.
  • • Provide individual, group, or family psychotherapy.
  • • Order and interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests, including EKGs and metabolic panels.
  • • Screen for and monitor comorbid medical conditions related to psychiatric treatment.
  • • Differentiate medical and psychiatric etiologies of symptoms.
  • • Perform risk assessments and crisis intervention; coordinate response to acute situations.
  • • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment options, medications, and wellness strategies.
  • • Collaborate with psychiatrists, psychologists, primary care, and nursing staff on care plans.
  • • Refer patients to higher levels of care or specialty services when indicated.
  • • Participate in case conferences and multidisciplinary rounds for complex cases.
  • • Document assessments, histories, diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions, and outcomes in the EHR.
  • • Administer medications, including long-acting injectables.
  • • Provide telepsychiatry and community or home-based services as appropriate.
  • • Develop and update clinical protocols and care pathways based on current evidence.
  • • Lead or support mental health education sessions or classes, such as stress management.
  • • Develop, implement, or evaluate outreach, community mental health, and recovery programs.
  • • Monitor and ensure appropriate use and inventory of psychiatric medications and supplies.
  • • Address routine health concerns related to psychiatric care and coordinate primary care follow-up.
  • • Consult with supervising or collaborating psychiatrists on unusual or high-risk cases.
  • • Engage in professional development, certification maintenance, and continuing education.
