Description
Diagnose, treat, and prevent disorders by stimulating specific points on the external ear using auricular acupuncture techniques. Utilize sterile auricular needles, ear seeds, magnets, and microstimulation, integrating traditional and evidence-informed protocols to address pain, stress, addiction, and other conditions while coordinating patient education and care.
- • Collect medical histories and lifestyle information to determine suitability for auricular acupuncture.
- • Inspect and palpate the auricle for tenderness, discoloration, or nodules to guide point selection.
- • Analyze findings using Traditional Chinese Medicine and auriculotherapy maps (e.g., Nogier) to support diagnosis.
- • Develop individualized auricular treatment plans and strategies.
- • Identify precise auricular point locations based on ear anatomy, patient position, and contraindications.
- • Insert sterile, single-use auricular needles or semi-permanent needles according to plan.
- • Apply non-needle stimulation, such as ear seeds, pellets, magnets, microcurrent, or low-level laser.
- • Instruct patients in self-stimulation and aftercare for ear seeds, magnets, or pellets.
- • Implement standardized protocols, such as NADA or Battlefield Acupuncture, when appropriate.
- • Monitor patient responses during and after sessions; manage adverse events and needle sensitivity.
- • Evaluate treatment outcomes and adjust point selection, modality, or frequency as needed.
- • Educate patients on stress reduction, breathing, sleep, and lifestyle practices that support care.
- • Recommend or dispense adjunctive herbal or nutritional therapies when appropriate, noting interactions and contraindications.
- • Communicate with and refer to Western medical providers for diagnostics, co-management, or urgent concerns.
- • Maintain thorough clinical records, informed consent, and treatment documentation.
- • Adhere to infection control, clean needle technique, and sharps disposal requirements.
- • Comply with local, state, and federal regulations and professional scope of practice.
- • Maintain a safe clinical environment and equipment following quality and safety protocols.
